Slow and Seasonal Living in March: Finding Our Family Rhythm

After the blur of February half term and two weeks of our youngest struggling with a persistent cough, it feels so good to be back in a routine and focusing on slow and seasonal living in March. We are finally getting full nights of sleep again and it feels like such a gift. Because we are all resting better, I have decided to delay the transition from the cot to a floorbed for a little while longer. We will get there eventually, but for now, I am protecting the sleep we have.
March is the month of “Awakening” in my Slow & Seasonal Living Calendar. It is about noticing the first signs of life in the garden and clearing away the heaviness of winter. Even though our 1930s house is still a building site, I can feel the season shifting.

New Spring Traditions and Sunday Bike Rides
Since we are in such a busy phase with the renovation, there isn’t much time for elaborate family outings. However, we have started a simple new tradition that has quickly become the highlight of our week.
Every Sunday, we try to go on a family bike ride together. Now that the air is a bit warmer, we head out in the late morning. It always lifts our spirits to be moving through the fresh air. Last time, we picked up a roast chicken on our way home. It was still warm when we got back to the flat and sharing that simple meal together felt like such a luxury. It is a small rhythm, but it helps us reconnect before the busy work week starts again.
Mid-Week Rhythms for Slow Living with Children
Wednesdays are always a bit different here in France since there is no school. The girls are both at home with me, and we have found a nice flow for the day. We usually visit a playgroup in the morning to burn off some energy, then come home for lunch.
While the 1.5-year-old takes her nap, my eldest and I have some quiet time for stories and crafting. It is a peaceful moment of the day that I really treasure. Once everyone is awake, we head outside for the afternoon. A walk to the park and being outdoors makes everything feel a bit more manageable.
March House Renovation Update: Windows and Flooring
We have reached a big milestone at the house this month. The new windows and doors are being installed, and it is incredible how much they change the feeling of the space. It finally feels sealed and protected.
We are now in the middle of choosing our flooring. We have decided on hardwood for the kitchen and living areas to keep it feeling warm and timeless. For the entryway and the guest toilet, we are looking at checkerboard tiles. I love how they nod to that classic European heritage while feeling fresh and clean.
Building Maison Citrose: Packaging and Website Details
On the business side of things, my focus is on the details that make a delivery feel like a gift. I am currently:
- Finalising packaging: I have ordered a custom logo stamp and lovely canvas drawstring pouches. I want the experience of opening a Maison Citrose piece to feel as heirloom-quality as the clothes themselves.
- Website bits: I am spending my evenings updating the homepage and creating product pages for the detachable collar. There is still a lot of tedious work to do, like the privacy policy and terms and conditions, but I am also working on a curated edit section and my About page to share more of our story.
A Seasonal Could-Do Bucket List for March
If you have a little more space in your schedule than I do this month, here are some ideas from the March calendar to help you lean into the season:
- Start seeds on a sunny windowsill with your children
- Create a spring cleaning playlist that makes tidying fun
- Clean your windows and let the light flood in
- Go on a family bike ride and spot signs of spring
- Bake something citrusy or fresh that tastes like sunshine
- Press flowers together and keep them for crafts
- Make Easter decorations from twigs and flowers
- Decorate blown eggs and hang them on branches
I might not get to the window cleaning or the egg decorating this year, but we will definitely be keeping our Sunday bike rides. Sometimes, focusing on one or two simple things is more than enough.
